Sept 123, and Sassy sketch

Hello blog friends. :)
I have my take on Septembers challenge at 123 blog to share today and the 4th Sassy lil Sketch for the month.
First up the 123 challenge was to use one main colour - WHITE.
I gesso'd over some lightly patterned paper and then waited for it to almost dry before laying a big piece of bubble wrap over the whole page then lifting to reveal the bubble wrap imprint. I did this a couple
of times and ended up with this really cool texture as my base.

The second part of the challenge was to use the word 'ON' so I made up this little quote
starting with 'ON'. I used some dusty concord distress stains to cover the white alpha's.
This and a couple of brads and the transparent tag were the only items of colour I
allowed myself due to the 'white' criteria. gosh it was hard not to add
any other colours. But I'm happy with how my layout looks.
And the third and last criteria was to incorporate white space on your layout.
So i cropped my photo small and added very little else to the page.
Just a white Prima flower, a white pearl flourish, a white tag, the brads I mentioned and some stamped
hearts.

This second layout is for the fourth sketch at Sassy Lil Sketches this month.
I used Jillibean soup papers. I used this Layout as an opportunity
to document about my second son's passion for Aussie Rules football.
He absolutely lives and breathes it, absorbing in some fairly obscure statistics about the
game and the people that play it. He watches any games he can on the
T.V., even games from 10 or 20 years ago!!!!
He definitely takes after his Dad regarding his memory of stats.
And as luck would have it
his beloved Cats are playing in the Grand final this weekend and boy is he
looking forward to that.

thanks for stopping by and
 Go You Mighty Catters!!! :)

some more for SFS Sketchaday

Here are a few more layouts i've done this past month for the sketch a day comp over at

This is the stuck sketch for the 15th Sept

there was some extra criteria for this one which
was to use spots somewhere on your layout.

this one is an older Sassy lil sketches sketch
from Feb this year.

And this is a current Sassy Lil Sketch

that's it for now, I think i'm going to be a little lost at the end of the month when this competition finishes
It's been great to get a layout done each day with some
fantastic sketches as inspiration.
Cheers, Leonie.

Scrap-It-Lah

Hi, i've been having some fun!
What with you ask well i saw this challenge
at Scrap It Lah on Helen's blog and knew i had to give it a go.
Having been dabbling in some mixed media canvases lately and having lots
of fun i thought it would be cool to try the same on a Layout.
this is what i came up with.
I used a crafters workshop template and gesso to begin with on some Teresa Collins music paper.

the challenge criteria was to
"Create your own mixed media background, using printed paper as a base.  Be sure to include at least 3 different paint colours in whatever effects you fancy. This can be using stamps,  bubble wrap,  etc etc - its all up to your imagination.

Also ensure that you have at least twelve words on your layout, which can include the title, date (if you want to include one) and the journaling (or even be one REALLY long title if you like!)"

I got to used my new Dylusions stamps for the first time! Love, love, love!!!

I also decided to keep my embellishments all neutral in colour because my background and photo's were
heavy with so many different colours. A cream peta-loo flower, some pale pink Prima
butterflies, white buttons and a book-print banner from 'a lil somethin'.

A heap of different coloured Adirondack colour washes, water sprayer and some liqutex inks to achieve the background colours. The paper was so wet by the time i finished I thought it was going to tear-haha! It took quite a bit of drying!~ I also sprayed the whole thing rather generously
with a copper Maya Road mist- it has the most awesome shimmer of any of the mists
i've used. Shame i couldn't get it to show up in the pictures i took
but trust me it has a very pretty shimmer!

And ta-da this was the end result.

I think it's my new favourite layout!
All about my out of control life! lol!
The journaling reads

"Under control?! HA!
Who am I kidding!
Most of the time my life with four
kids feels like an out of control train, destined
to crash.  Just when I think I’ve got it back
on track….watch out!
This is it!  This is me!
Just a Mum doing what Mums do everyday.
Some days it’s good, some days it’s
not.  Sometimes I feel like I’m on top of it all
and other times I feel like a gibbering mess.
I’m not sure what gets me through
those days???.... But, I do get through them I come
out the other side hoping, praying I’ll feel a
little more in command…next time
the train threatens to derail."

If you want to take part in this Scrap-It-Lah challenge
you have until Sept, 30th so hop over here and check out the
DT samples and the fab Studio Calico prize up for grabs.

thanks so much for visiting, and if you feel like leaving me

my GiSt class canvas

I recently did an online class by Giovanna Scott, a very talented mixed media artist.
Giovanna created the most amazing tree in her class
which i attempted to replicate.

My tree ended up with one very large overhanging limb and
trying to put my own spin on things it just looked like
it was begging for a swing. I remember the swing
we had as kids hanging from a pussy willow tree in our backyard.

so I added a little swing with some twine and chipboard.
I was going to stick it down but i liked the idea of it
dangling there, just waiting for a child to start swinging...

I love how my canvas turned out, thanks for a great class if you're reading this Gigi. :)

So if you're looking to try something a little different creatively
I highly recommend this class by Giovanna

sketch a day-5, 6, and 7

thought i'd share some more of my sketch a day
Layouts from the competition over at SFS.
I'm really, really enjoying getting a new sketch each day
and getting at least one page done a day.
Here's day 5, using some Authentique papers, just love the quality of these
papers so thick and they have an awesome textured finish!

this is day 6 and I used MME embellishments on this one.
the base is white cardstock that I've gesso'd with a prima
mask and then once it was dry I sprayed with Adirondack colour washes
(gosh I love those sprays they have such vibrant colours)
and if you add a water spray the colours blend beautifully!
here's a close-up

Haha i seem to have a theme going with most of my
layouts for this comp. they are all back to school photo's.
I scrap mainly in Chronological order so...

Ahhh here's something non school. Sketch number 7, my twins
on the morning of their 8th birthday. I scrapped this
one with some more MME.

This layout is based on one of
the sketches at Sassy Lil Sketches this month.

Love my little banner made out of the MME chipboard and cardstock tags
that came in the Rosey kit .

that's it will share some more 'sketch a day' pages during the week.
cheers, thanks for visiting.

Scrap the Girls - September

a product challenge is the go this month at
you need to use CLIPS...paperclips, bulldog clips, and clips...
the DT were sent a little package of bright coloured paper clips,
as well as various bull dog clips.
They all come in such a variety of shapes, sizes and colours these days.

I used these lovely lime twist papers from MME.
nice bright colours to match the clips.
Look a star shaped paperclip!

How cool is this peg clip I love it and it holds up my banner perfectly!

I scrapped this picture of my daughter and her friend holding aloft their
Little Athletics medals.

Head over here to see all the other fab DT samples for september.

Guest Design Team- From Screen 2 Scrap

Ever done a challenge at screen 2 scrap?
I've done a few and find them lots of fun.
Shazza asked me to take part in the september challenge as their
Movie extra aka GDT.
If you're unfamilar with screen 2 scrap challenges it's basically using movie posters
as your layout inspiration with some extra criteria thrown in.

Septembers movie poster is the movie Rio!
the extra criteria are-
For an extra 6 bonus points :)

1) One word title = 1 pt
2) Use Blue, Yellow and Red Cardstock = 2 pts
3) Add a Bird = 3 pts

Now, the bird and the one word title were not a problem.

but let me tell you the red, yellow and blue cardstock proved quite a problem for me!
Normally i use white, Kraft or patterned paper.
That's why a few months ago i had a huge clean out of all my old papers and
coloured cardstock and either gave them away or replenished my daughters craft drawer.
So of course i had to raid Maggies' supplies (luckily she hasn't noticed yet, hehe).
So what do I do with them now? Well I stamped on them with a script stamp and made
 some grungy looking flowers.

For the design of my layout I was inspired by the triangular shape of the bird in the movie poster
and used this in the placement of my photo’s.
I’ve have the felt bird in my stash for ages so that covered the bird criteria, knew it would come in handy one day, it looked a little crazy so it matched the them of
the layout with my son pulling funny faces!
And lastly my journaling imitated the style in the movie poster.

So if you want to join in this fab challenge head over here and have a look.
the design team have created some great layouts.

Sketchaday Comp

Hi, coming to you from sunny Sydney!
Today is our last day and it was a gorgeous day weather wise.  We drove to Chatswood for a Yum Cha lunch. The twins missed out on a chinese museum school excursion while we've been in Sydney so we thought this might compensate in some way to experience some chinese cuisine, haha. They had a good time and tried some new things so it was all good.
Afterwards because it was so sunny we spent a couple hours at the beach and i took a couple of hundred photos. Future scrapping pages hopefully.
But what i'm really here for is to show you some scrapping pages i've done.
there is a great competition started at Scrapbooking from Scratch. It runs for the whole month of September. There is a sketch posted each day which you scrap and upload to the gallery here to be in the running for heaps of fantastic prizes.
To tell you the truth though I was sold after the mention of sketches, my all time favorite challenge
and the first three have been great.
Here are my takes on the first 3 sketches for the month long comp.

The one above is going to double up as
Septembers WW1 and below is going to double up as the stuck 1st sketch

if you want to join in head over here and check it all out.
Thanks for visiting and
sorry to all the bloggers that i haven't visited recently.
i'll be back to checking and commenting on all your gorgeous blogs early next week.
